Though it may not look it from the outside, the new Subaru Crosstrek has undergone a redesign this year. The big change for its third generation is Subaru finally offering the Crosstrek with a Wilderness trim. The Crosstrek Wilderness will lift the suspension 9.3 inches off the ground, offer a more rugged exterior design, and all-terrain tires.
Though much has stayed the same in the redesigned Crosstrek, like its spacious cabin and cargo area, some aspects have been improved. The seat design is now more comfortable, and additional sound-reducing materials help dampen noises and quell vibrations.
Cloth upholstery will come standard, though leather upholstery will be available as an available option. The front doors offer deep pockets for storing water bottles, and the cargo area offers 20 cubic feet of space, though, with the rear seats up, that number is increased to 55 cubic feet.
Powering the redesigned Crosstrek will be the same powertrain as last year's model. Under the hood will be a 2.0-liter 152-hp four-cylinder engine as standard. But the Sport, Wilderness, and Limited models will come with a more powerful 2.5-liter 182-hp four-cylinder engine.
According to the EPA, the Crosstrek will get about 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, depending on the configuration.
Inside all 2024 Crosstrek models, an 11.6-inch infotainment display will be available, just like in other Subaru models such as the Outback and the WRX. But it won't be standard. Instead, a smaller seven-inch display is standard equipment. Though both screens will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Additional features the Subaru Crosstrek offers include a power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, a sunroof, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system.
The 2024 Crosstrek will come with Subaru's latest EyeSight driver-assistance feature bundle as standard equipment. As such, base safety features will include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.
Higher trims will offer features such as blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, evasive steering assistance, and automatic rear braking.
As the first model in the lineup and the most affordable, the Base will come with a fair number of amenities. A seven-inch touchscreen, four-speaker sound system, and rear-seat reminder will all be standard tech.
The Premium takes what's offered in the Base model and adds in some more premium features. These include LED fog lights, an 11.6-inch touchscreen, Subaru's Starlink connected services, and a six-speaker sound system.
The exterior of the Sport is unique as it offers an exclusive yellow exterior accent. This model offers features such as heated exterior mirrors, a heated windshield, heated front seats, and a wireless smartphone charger.
